Olivia Rodrigo and her frequent collaborator, Dan Nigro, have been honored as the 2024 Songwriters of the Year by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). Their recognition comes after a series of successful projects, including their latest album “GUTS,” which ASCAP described as a “bona fide modern masterpiece.” The album’s grunge-inspired sound led to widespread acclaim, chart-topping hits, and a sold-out world tour.
The awards ceremony took place at the Houdini Estate in Los Angeles on May 8, where the pop dream team celebrated their achievements. Nigro expressed his gratitude on social media the following day, sharing moments from the event and reflecting on his journey from his “Pizza Hut days” to the prestigious accolade.
Rodrigo, who also won the same award in 2022 and was Time’s 2021 Entertainer of the Year, spoke about the importance of songwriting in her life and the challenges she faced with criticism over her work. She emphasized her desire to be seen as an individual artist rather than being constantly compared to others in the industry. Both Rodrigo and Nigro continue to shape their narratives through their music, underscoring the personal and creative fulfillment they find in songwriting.
