Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan are bringing their longtime friendship into the recording studio spotlight with a new version of Rodrigo’s song “Expectations.”
The two pop stars have confirmed that their collaborative remix will arrive Thursday, October 15, at 5 p.m. Pacific, accompanied by an official music video featuring both performers.
The announcement marks a significant moment for the singers, whose careers have intersected repeatedly over the years. Although they have shared stages and creative connections, the new recording gives Roan a formally credited featured appearance alongside Rodrigo.
“Expectations” originally appeared on Rodrigo’s third studio album, *You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love*, which arrived in June 2026 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The original track also made an impression on the singles chart, entering the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 20.
For the updated recording, the singers reunited with producer Daniel Nigro, who has played an important role in shaping both artists’ musical identities.
Rodrigo began building anticipation for the collaboration through social media, sharing a brief audio teaser featuring Roan’s voice before officially announcing the project on October 13.
The promotional artwork embraces a colorful retro aesthetic, showing the singers dressed in elaborate 1980s-inspired fashions while posing on a vintage convertible. The accompanying music video, directed by Bardia Zeinali, will premiere alongside the track.
The collaboration represents another chapter in a friendship that began well before both artists reached their current levels of fame.
Roan previously supported Rodrigo during her Sour Tour in 2022 and returned as an opening act on the Guts World Tour in 2024. As Roan’s own popularity surged, the pair continued celebrating each other’s success, including a joint performance of Roan’s “Hot to Go!” during a Los Angeles stop on Rodrigo’s tour.
Their connection extended beyond touring when Roan joined the lineup of Rodrigo’s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California, in August 2026. The event raised $20 million for charitable organizations focused on supporting women and girls.
The upcoming remix also arrives during a busy period for Rodrigo, who is continuing to build on the commercial success of her third album.
Fans interested in owning a physical copy of the collaboration will have several options, including limited-edition seven-inch vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes.
With their shared musical history and distinct approaches to pop, Rodrigo and Roan’s latest project brings two of the genre’s prominent voices together for a release that celebrates both their creative partnership and enduring friendship.
The “Expectations” remix and its accompanying music video are scheduled to debut Thursday, October 15.
