Two years after facing her own breast cancer diagnosis, Olivia Munn is now supporting her mother through the same battle. In a heartfelt Instagram post on July 9, Munn shared that her mother has been diagnosed with stage 1 Her2-positive breast cancer.
The actress credited the Tyrer-Cuzick lifetime risk assessment—a free tool that helped detect her own cancer in 2023—with saving her mom’s life, too. Despite a clear mammogram, Munn encouraged her mother to take the risk test. With a result of 26.2%, her mom underwent an MRI, which led to the discovery.
“From my mom being there after my double mastectomy to me being there after hers,” Munn wrote. “It’s really hard to go through cancer, but it’s even harder to watch someone you love go through it.”
Munn’s mother has completed 12 rounds of chemo and continues with Herceptin treatments. The post included powerful visuals—smiles, tears, and a bell-ringing moment after chemotherapy.
“I want every OB-GYN to include this risk test,” Munn emphasized. “It saved my life. And now, my mom’s.”
She closed with gratitude for caregivers, her mother’s strength, and a reminder: early detection can save lives—twice in her family’s case.
