In a remarkable convergence of music and philanthropy, the surviving members of Nirvana—Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear—reunited for a special performance at the FireAid benefit concert in Inglewood, California, on January 30, 2025. The event aimed to raise funds for relief efforts following the devastating Los Angeles-area wildfires.
To honor the legacy of the late Kurt Cobain, the band enlisted a trio of distinguished female artists to handle vocals. St. Vincent delivered a powerful rendition of “Breed,” followed by Kim Gordon’s intense performance of “School.” Joan Jett then took the stage, bringing her signature energy to “Territorial Pissings.” The set concluded with a heartfelt version of “All Apologies,” featuring vocals by Violet Grohl, Dave Grohl’s daughter.
The FireAid concert featured a star-studded lineup, including performances by Green Day, Billie Eilish, Alanis Morissette, Anderson .Paak, Dr. Dre, Pink, Stevie Nicks, Katy Perry, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Comedian Billy Crystal also shared a moving story about losing his family home to the wildfires, highlighting the personal impact of the disaster.
Attendees and viewers were encouraged to donate, with Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and his wife pledging to match all contributions. The event was broadcast across multiple platforms, including Netflix and Disney+, ensuring widespread reach and support for the cause.
