The 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards are set to dazzle audiences on January 5, and host Nikki Glaser is ready to bring humor, charm, and just the right amount of roast-worthy jokes to Hollywood’s star-studded evening. As the first solo female host of the Globes, Glaser aims to strike a balance between sharp wit and celebration—without stepping too far over the line.
A Comedic Tone with a Soft Edge
Best known for her biting humor at the Tom Brady Roast, Glaser is aware of the expectations her role carries. Yet, she insists her approach to the Globes will differ, focusing more on entertainment than controversy.
“I’m going to bring that energy, but the tone will be different,” Glaser told Yahoo Entertainment. “It’s not gonna be watered down, but celebrities shouldn’t be nervous. I’m not out to ruin anyone’s night.”
Glaser emphasized her goal is to make attendees—and audiences at home—feel at ease, noting that celebrities can use humor as a way to appear relatable.
Advice for Celebrities: Laugh It Off
The comedian encouraged nominees to embrace lighthearted jabs, even if they sting a little.
“I’ve been on the receiving end of roast jokes, laughing through tears, so I get it,” she said. “But if I joke about a bad movie you did, just laugh. It makes you look good—and it’s great PR!”
What’s Off-Limits?
While Glaser promises not to shy away from humor, some topics will be avoided. She specifically ruled out commenting on the It Ends With Us drama involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, labeling it “too hot-button.”
“I don’t even want to give his name more attention,” she quipped, signaling her intent to steer clear of contentious headlines.
Similarly, politics will be mentioned only lightly, with Glaser acknowledging that audiences are “tired” of heavy-handed messaging.
Free Rein for Comedy
Unlike some hosts who must submit scripts for approval, Glaser revealed she has full creative control over her monologue. Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne confirmed this, saying, “She can say whatever she wants.”
Glaser views this freedom as an opportunity to blend humor with sincerity, setting a “celebratory” tone while gently poking fun at the absurdity of awards season.
Setting the Mood for the Night
With her blend of self-deprecating humor and sharp observations, Glaser hopes to kick off the night with laughter while acknowledging the surreal nature of Hollywood glamour.
“We have to admit it’s kind of silly that we’re all dressed up and giving out awards for playing pretend,” she joked. “But it’s also amazing—and I want to celebrate that.”
As Glaser prepares to take the stage, audiences can expect a night full of humor, glamour, and just enough spice to keep things interesting.
