Derek Carr is going to be heading to New Orleans, with the Saints singing the former pro Bowl quarterback to a deal that is worth $150 million and includes $100 million in guarantees. Carr will be getting $60 million on signing.
The Saint have since announced agreeing to terms with the quarterback something he also confirmed by tweeting “Who Dat” on Monday morning. He also thanked Raiders fans saying, “I will miss all of you Raiders fans also. Thank you for an amazing 9 years.”
Carr was the Raiders’ all time career passing leader as well as a four time Pro Bowl selection over his nine years with the franchise. Carr was a league MVP candidate prior to an injury in the 2016 season. Carr also led the Raiders to the franchise’s only two playoff appearances since 2002.
Last season was one of Carr’s worst seasons, completing 60.8 percent of his passes the lowest since his rookie season in the NFL. Originally Carr planned on retiring with the Raiders, but in the off-season he said he intended to continue elsewhere.
Carr stated via social media, “I once said that if I’m not a Raider I would rather be at home and I meant that, but I never envisioned it ending this way, That fire burning inside of me to win a championship still rages. A fire no man can extinguish; only God. So I look forward to a new city and a new team who, no matter the circumstance, will get everything I have. Winning a championship is what I’ve always wanted and what I will continue to work towards.”
