Neon Dreams

It’s time to break out of your Winter doldrums, because 2019 is going to be a year of “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.”  From Shoes and Bags to Dresses and Shirts, fashions are a virtual starburst of bright, fruity, neon color.

These eye-popping bold hues flashed absolutely everywhere on the runways for Spring, including Versace, Valentino, Christian Siriano, Naeem Khan, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Brandon Maxwell, Prabal Gurung, and Pyer Moss, just to name a few. Skirts, shorts, trousers and jackets come in bold, bright shades that can pack a punch as a full look, as they were at Chanel and Gucci, or be mixed up with softer hues and dressed down with denim, as they were at Victoria Beckham and Giuliva Heritage Collection.  Jeremy Scott and Milly’s collections featured outfits in colors that looked like they borrowed from a box of highlighter pens, and we mean that in a fabulous way.

Although green has historically been the neon-du-jour, apparently, Orange is the new black, as that high-saturation tangerine color appeared in runways that ranged from New York staple Tory Burch to the recently reestablished Escada (under new global design director, Niall Sloane), to up-and-comer Miaou. In fact, all shades in the fire end of the color wheel seemed to dominate, as “Turmeric” was recently named a hue to keep an eye out for in the coming months, some designers hailed the saturated sunny yellow dubbed “magnolia” as their favorite go-to, and still others went for the pop of poppy red.

Whatever form it takes, color is King for 2019.
