National Avocado Day came and went on July 31, but fear not avocado fans — National Guacamole Day is right around the corner on Friday, September 16, 2022!

A mix of tomatoes, onions and a smattering of other ingredients ranging from peppers, lime, salt and more, guacamole is just as beloved as the chips, tacos and burritos it compliments. On September 16, 2022, known to others as National Guacamole Day, the versatile dip will get the credit it deserves. Now let’s dig into the tasty side that’s loved by so many!

Native to Mexico and Central America, the avocado has been ground into a tasty paste and combined with the aforementioned culinary compliments for hundreds of years. In fact, according to the Avacados From Mexico site, it’s believed to have first been created by the ancient Aztecs in the 14th century. Talk about a success story!

Unfortunately, guacamole would need some time to win over its North American counterparts. According to Statista, Americans consumed 436 million pounds of avocados in 1985. That number skyrocketed to over 2.6 billion pounds in 2020, with avocados — and guacamole — becoming a popular Super Bowl dish every year.

Carnivale: Located in Chicago, customers could get half-priced guacamole on National Guacamole Day 2021.
Chipotle: Last year, customers were able to add a free side of guac to their Chipotle order.
Del Taco: In 2021, customers received a free snack-size portion of guacamole with any purchase from September 16-19. Download the Del Taco app in anticipation of this year’s deal.
Dos Toros: To celebrate National Guacamole Day last year, Dos Toros offered a free side order of chips and guac with the purchase of an entree.
Moe’s Southwest Grill: If you prefer queso over guac, you’re in luck. September 20 just so happens to be National Queso Day, and in 2021, Moe’s had a deal for free queso for Moe Rewards members.
