The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are set to be a night of unforgettable performances, with Benson Boone, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, and LISA newly added to the list of artists scheduled to take the stage. The show will air live on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. ET/PT from New York’s UBS Arena.
For Benson Boone, this marks his first-ever VMAs performance, while LISA will be making her solo debut on the VMAs stage, having previously performed with BLACKPINK in 2022. Halsey returns to the VMAs after a seven-year hiatus, last gracing the stage in 2016 with The Chainsmokers for their chart-topping hit “Closer.” Lenny Kravitz, who hasn’t performed at the VMAs since 1998 when he joined Madonna for “Ray of Light,” will also make a highly anticipated return. His last solo performance on the VMAs stage was in 1993 with “Are You Gonna Go My Way.”
This year, LISA is up for four awards, Boone for three, and Kravitz for one. LISA made history in 2022 as the first Korean solo artist to win a VMA, taking home the award for Best K-Pop with “Lalisa.” Halsey also has a VMA under her belt, winning Best K-Pop in 2019 as a featured artist on BTS’s “Boy With Luv.” Kravitz earned Best Male Video in 1993 for “Are You Gonna Go My Way.”
Boone is also in the running for Best New Artist, competing against another performer of the night, Chappell Roan. Other nominees in this category include Gracie Abrams, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and Tyla.
Taylor Swift leads the pack with 10 nominations, followed closely by her “Fortnight” collaborator Post Malone with nine. Ariana Grande, Eminem, and Sabrina Carpenter each have six nods, while Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, and LISA are all nominated for four awards.
Fans can cast their votes across 15 gender-neutral categories at vote.mtv.com through Friday, Aug. 30. Voting for Best New Artist will remain open until the live show on Sept. 11. Nominations for social categories will be revealed later.
