One of the greatest cities in the world is of course the Big Apple, New York City. If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. Long Island is a different animal all together. LI is 118 miles long and 23 miles wide at its peak, and is the most populated island in the US. It’s also the home of some great rockers…
Yes, Blue Oyster Cult is from the LI. They began with an even weirder name in the late 70s, ‘Soft White Underbelly,’ but added the cow bell and enjoyed success as ‘BOC.’ “Burning For You” came at just the right time, the MTV days. The only original member that has been in every version of the band has been Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser.
Although Pat Benatar was born in Brooklyn, her family moved to Babylon LI at an early age. Pat left music to marry her 1st husband, moving to Richmond, VA to be a bank teller, but eventually made her way back to the stage. In 1975, she appeared at the comedy club ‘Catch a Rising Star’ singing a Judy Garand song – the owner of the club quickly offered to become her manager. Later she married lead guitarist Neil Giraldo and is the mother of two daughters living in Los Angeles.
