National Dairy Month is celebrated every year during the month of June throughout the United States. It is a month-long celebration of the contributions the dairy industry has made for more than 85 years.
Many organizations use National Dairy Month as a platform to introduce the hard working dairy farmers and families that are behind milk and dairy products making it to your grocery store shelves every day, like Cheese (June 4th is National Cheese Day), Frozen Yogurt (June is also Fro Yo Month and the 4th is also Frozen Yogurt Day) and Chocolate Ice Cream (June 7th is Chocolate Ice Cream Day). The History of National Dairy Month
According to the American Dairy Association of the North East, National Dairy Month originally began in 1937 as National Milk Month. There was a production surplus at the time, and dairy farmers created this day to encourage consumers to, well, drink more milk of course!
The celebration has evolved over time and the name was changed to National Dairy Month after the National Dairy Council got involved to help promote the event. The month-long annual celebration officially kicks off on June 1st with World Milk Day.
