Monday’s Music Headlines

The summer is almost over as Labor Day approaches. Well, at least we know you’ll be getting a Monday off from work. In the meantime, let’s get through this Monday with your music news headlines…

The Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame inducted the 2016 class in Detroit last week. The inductees included Smokey Robinson, the Supremes, Fats Domino, Sam and Dave, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Dionne Warwick, Eddie Floyd and Eddie Holman. Mary Wilson of the Supremes was a delightful host.

Condolences to Bee Gee Barry Gibb, whose mother Barbara passed away a few weeks ago in Miami. She was 95, and outlasted two sons; Maurice and Andy.

Pat Upton, lead vocalist and guitarist with the Spiral Staircase, writer of their big hit, “More Today Than Yesterday,” died in July at the age of 75 a few weeks ago.

Birthdays this week include Van Morrison, Daniel Seraphine from the band Chicago, Grand Funk Railroads’ Donald Brewer, The Beach Boys’ Al Jardine, Dweezil Zappa, and Roger Waters from Pink Floyd.
