MLB to Air Local Games for Guardians, Brewers, and Twins Next Season

Major League Baseball (MLB) has announced plans to take over the broadcasting of local games for the Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, and Minnesota Twins in the 2025 season. This decision follows years of struggles within the regional sports network (RSN) model, which has faced financial instability and declining viewership due to shifting media consumption trends.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred revealed the league’s strategy during a press conference, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring fans have uninterrupted access to their favorite teams. “We are stepping in to protect our fans and provide high-quality broadcasts directly,” Manfred stated. “This is part of our larger initiative to modernize the way baseball reaches its audience.”

The league intends to implement a direct-to-consumer streaming platform alongside traditional cable broadcasts, making games more accessible. Viewers will have the option to subscribe to packages tailored to their favorite teams or enjoy comprehensive MLB coverage.

Fans have responded positively to the news, as many had voiced frustrations over blackout restrictions and high subscription fees under the RSN model. Analysts predict this move could set a precedent for other sports leagues navigating similar challenges.

As MLB takes on this ambitious endeavor, it aims to provide a seamless and affordable viewing experience while broadening its audience.
