According to rttnews.com, Missy Elliott is being honoured in her hometown by having a street in the new entertainment district named after her. According to reports, the Portsmouth City Council voted to change the name of a one mile section of McLean Street to Missy Elliott Boulevard. Elliott was born Melissa Arnette Elliott, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, which is now called Manor High.
Erin Carter, a Portsmouth resident and lifelong Missy Elliott fan had made the name change request to honor the artist that she says had the courage to take on the world stage. She even later reacted to the news on twitter in saying, “I am forever GRATEFUL [prayer emoji] P-TOWN [raised hands emoji] VA #757 LOVE.”
