Michael Jackson’s Album ‘Thriller’ Jumps to Top 10 on Billboard 200

Michael Jackson’s 1982 album, Thriller, has made its way to number seven on the Billboard 200 chart this week, jumping 108 spots from its position just last week. Thriller sold 37,000 equivalent units in the week that ended November 24th due to a 283% gain after a special 40th anniversary edition of the album was released on November 18th.

The album had 37 consecutive weeks at the number one spot between 1983 and 1984, and remains the only album to spend the most weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 by a solo act. Thriller debuted at number 11 on the main albums chart in December of 1982 and jumped to number one in February of 1983.

The last time that the album made its way to the top ten on the Billboard was during the week of June 30th, 1984, when it was placed at number 8. Thriller also has spent a total of 549 weeks on the Billboard 200. Thriller is also certified 34x multi-platinum, and is the largest selling album by a solo artist and the second highest certified album of all time.

Thriller’s November 18th reissue titled “Thriller 40,” is a celebratory set that is packages as a double disc and includes all of the original tracks from Thriller and a complete CD that features unreleased recordings from the Thriller sessions.
