Michael Chandler openly criticized Colby Covington’s recent UFC 296 performance against Leon Edwards, describing it as lackluster and unimpressive. Chandler, known for his candid opinions, used historical references to mock Covington’s strategy, suggesting it was so ineffective that had it been a military tactic, key historical battles would have been lost.
Chandler, who is preparing for a notable welterweight bout against Conor McGregor in 2024, dismissed any interest in fighting Covington after witnessing his recent performance. He even went as far as to suggest that Covington’s display was so underwhelming that it merited a downgrade to preliminary fights, a stark contrast to the high-profile main event slots Covington has been accustomed to. Covington, despite his own claims of winning the latter rounds, was only officially awarded the last round by the judges.
