Miami Dolphins’ Byron James Warns Future Players of His Inability to Jump or Run Due to NFL Career

Eight years ago Byron Jones set a record for the long jump and impressed NFL scouts with his abilities. The Dallas Cowboys ended up selecting Jones in the first round of the 2015 draft and he ended up spending time as a safety and corner in his first few years of his career. Before being selected to the Pro Bowl in 2018.

In March of 2020, Jones signed a five year contract for $82 million with the Dolphins. However, soon after he started having setbacks because of injuries. Jones went on to miss all of last season due to an Achilles tendon injury.

On Saturday, Jones posted on Twitter that he could no longer run or jump because of injuries he received during his career. Jones stated, “Much has changed in 8 years. Today I can’t run or jump because of my injuries sustained playing this game, DO NOT take the pills they give you. DO NOT take the injections they give you, If you absolutely must, consult an outside doctor to learn the long-term implications.”

Jones concluded by saying, “It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL but it came at a regrettable cost I did not foresee, In my opinion, no amount of professional success or financial gain is worth avoidable chronic pain and disabilities. Godspeed to the draft class of 2023.”

ESPN previously reported Jones has no plans of retiring. However, if the Miami Dolphins choose to release Jones they will save between $3.6 million and $13.6 million against the salary cap.

Over Jones’ eight year career he has a total of 57 pass deflections and four interceptions.
