Mets’ Jose Siri Faces Extended Absence with Fractured Tibia

New York Mets center fielder Jose Siri is set to miss significant time after an MRI revealed a fractured left tibia. The injury occurred during Saturday’s game against the Oakland Athletics when Siri fouled a pitch off his shin. Although initial X-rays were negative, further imaging confirmed the fracture. Siri has been placed on the injured list, and no definitive timeline for his return has been provided.

Acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in the offseason, Siri was brought in for his defensive prowess and speed. Despite a slow start at the plate, going 1-for-20 this season, his impact on defense and base running was notable.

In Siri’s absence, Tyrone Taylor is expected to take over center field duties. Additionally, the Mets may consider other options, including Brandon Nimmo, who has experience in center field, and prospect Luisangel Acuña, who played the position in Triple-A last season.

The Mets will monitor Siri’s recovery closely, with follow-up evaluations planned in the coming weeks to determine his rehabilitation progress.
