Metallica’s latest single, “Lux Æterna,” debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, which is the best for any song on the ranking in over 15 years. The last track to debut at #2 was Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Dani California,” from 2006.
Metallica now has 25 top 10 entries on Mainstream Rock Airplay, with 10 hitting number one. “Lux Æterna” is the lead track off of Metallica’s upcoming album 72 seasons, their follow up to 2016’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct which is set for arrival on April 14th. Metallica will be supporting 72 Seasons with a world tour in 2023 and 2023, with completely different set lists across multiple shows in each city.
