Metal Grommets and Eyelets are Suddenly Everywhere

It’s not typical for micro embellishments to make a macro impact, but if you’ve been browsing new arrivals lately, you’ve likely noticed some of the best accessories for spring all have something in common.  Metal eyelets and grommets are suddenly everywhere.

As Fashionista reports, the trend started brewing with Gucci’s Fall 2022 collection, which included a punk-ified Jackie 1961 bag. After that, it seemed like designers everywhere took a liking to eyelets and grommets, but modernized to be thicker and wider in size, used to reveal whatever’s beneath or to simply add another decorative touch.

Alaïa has a history of loving a metal cap here and there, most recently dotting everything from hosiery to swimwear to its latest must-own pair of ballet flats with them; they also are a key detail in Prada’s Spring 2024 collection, punched onto knitwear and fringed midi skirts, reminiscent of the brand’s grommeted handbags from the early aughts.

Now you can easily find eyelet- and grommet-accented handbags, belts and shoes from brands like Alexander McQueen (check out that Lace Detail Denim and Chunky Loafers), Isabel Marant (her Duerto Boots, Lecce Belt, and Moon Bag just for starters), Anthropologie and Sandro (studded Sandals or Kitten Heels anyone?), Jacquemus, Christian Laboutin, Moschino, Maje M, Urban Outfitters and more.

With footwear styles ranging from sandals to ballet flats to revenge boots, belts in both thick and thin widths in a multitude of colors, and bags to fit anyone tastes, there’s a grommet accessory out there to suit just about anyone’s fancy.
