Over 50 girls ranging from grades K-8 were able to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day through learning what it truly means to be a female athlete.
The attendees for the event gathered at Mercyhurst University, and were able to be part of interactive stations run by women from the university’s sports teams, club sports, and athletic training departments.
The sports that the girls were able to take part in ranged from cheerleading, softball, tennis, bowling and more. This year marked the tenth year for the event at Mercyhurst.
Bethany Woods, the Beyond the Games Director at Mercyhurst stated, “So it’s really important for girls to know how to be active and to be introduced to activities, Being healthy as a girl, it’s not as common for girls to play sports. So it’s really important for the girls in our community to see college athletes and see what you can do if you stay healthy and active.”
