Meghan Markle Dons Sustainable Duds Down Under

Meghan Markle wears her heart on her sleeve, literally, as the new Duchess of Sussex repeatedly shows off four major sustainable designers during her whirlwind sixteen-day tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand.

While watching the sailing with Prince Harry during the Invictus Games on Saturday, the mother-to-be wore the Australian label Veja V-10 leather trainers. Veja’s environmentally-friendly vegan shoes are made from raw materials sourced from organic family and ecological agriculture without chemicals or polluting processes. It’s also certified fair-trade and each cotton farmer holds an organic farming certificate.

Meghan teamed her look with a pair of black jeans from Outland Denim, which are also ethically made. The brand’s website reads: ‘We source the finest raw materials from around the world while offering sustainable employment and training opportunities to women rescued from human trafficking and sexual exploitation.’

For the opening of the Invictus Games on Saturday, the Duchess recycled her Stella McCartney navy cape dress she originally wore for the Queen’s 92nd birthday celebrations earlier this year. The British designer is a pioneer of sustainability in the fashion industry, sourcing as many sustainable materials as possible while focusing on social sustainability and collaborations with NGOs, as well as promoting a cruelty-free ethos.

Meanwhile, for her final day in Australia and visit to Fraser Island on Sunday, the Duchess wore a ‘Pineapple’ maxi dress from the American label, Reformation.

The brand is widely known to put sustainability at the heart of everything it produces, investing in green building in infrastructure to minimize their waste, water, and energy footprints.

Way to go, Meghan!
