Megan Thee Stallion leads the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards with 12 nominations. For the first time since the category’s introduction in 2020, women have matched men in the hip-hop artist of the year category. The nominees include four women (Megan, Cardi B, GloRilla, and Nicki Minaj) and four men (21 Savage, Drake, Future, and Kendrick Lamar).
Kendrick Lamar follows closely behind with 11 nods, while Drake has eight. Cardi B, GloRilla, Metro Boomin, and Nicki Minaj each secured seven nominations. Megan is recognized for her collaborations, including Cardi B’s “Bongos,” GloRilla’s “Wanna Be,” and her own track “Mamushi” featuring Yuki Chiba.
Drake is the only artist nominated for hip-hop artist of the year for all five years since the category’s inception. Megan earns her fourth nod, while it’s the first nomination for Nicki Minaj in this category.
Fat Joe returns as host and co-executive producer for the third consecutive year, with the event taping on October 8 in Las Vegas and airing on BET on October 15. “Joe Crack is back for the three-peat,” he said, promising an unforgettable show.
This year’s nominees showcase the genre’s creativity and diversity, according to Connie Orlando, BET’s EVP of specials, music programming, and music strategy. The event, typically held in Atlanta, moves to Las Vegas this year, marking only the fourth time it’s been hosted outside its traditional location. Fans can vote for DJ of the year, producer of the year, and best hip hop platform starting September 20 on the BET website.
