MTV has revealed that rapper Megan Thee Stallion will take the stage as the host of the 2024 Video Music Awards on September 11, airing live at 8:00 pm ET/PT from New York’s UBS Arena. This marks Megan’s debut as an award show host, joining a growing list of music stars who have recently helmed the iconic event.
Megan Thee Stallion, a three-time Grammy winner, has already made her mark in the music industry. She took home Best New Artist at the 2021 Grammys, along with Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “Savage (Remix)” featuring Beyoncé. She’s also a two-time VMA winner, earning Best Power Anthem for “Hot Girl Summer” featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign in 2019, and Best Hip-Hop for “Savage” in 2020. This year, she’s nominated for five VMAs, including Best Collaboration for “Wanna Be” with GloRilla, and several technical categories for “Boa.”
The VMAs have traditionally been hosted by comedians like Arsenio Hall and Jack Black, but in recent years, the mic has been passed to music stars such as Diddy, Miley Cyrus, and Katy Perry. Now, Megan Thee Stallion will add her name to this prestigious list.
Megan’s year has been one of significant milestones. She released her third studio album, Megan, which features her latest chart-topping single, “Hiss.” The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, making it the highest-charting rap album by a woman in 2024. She’s also currently on her first headlining tour, the “Hot Girl Summer Tour,” further cementing her status as a powerhouse in the music industry.
