Months after the rap battle that ignited a year of diss tracks and chart-topping hits, Megan Thee Stallion is addressing the situation in a new interview with Billboard. “I still don’t know what the issue is,” Megan confessed, adding that she’s unsure what could even be resolved since she’s unaware of the root cause.
Megan also reflected on her status in the rap world, admitting she sees the drama as a backhanded compliment. “If people are coming for me, I must be up there,” she said. “I must be some kind of competition. That makes me feel good—it shows I can rap because if I wasn’t doing something right, y’all wouldn’t be talking about me.”
The tension between Megan and Nicki Minaj surfaced online in January when Minaj dropped a diss track, “Big Foot,” seemingly aimed at Megan. This followed Megan’s solo hit “Hiss,” which included the lyric, “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law / I don’t really know what the problem is.”
Despite their previous collaboration on the 2019 hit “Hot Girl Summer,” the beef escalated when Minaj’s album Pink Friday 2 included the track “FTCU,” with lines many believe took direct aim at Megan’s infamous 2020 shooting incident.
Megan concluded, “I didn’t plan to start anything, but if my words opened the door for others to speak up, I’m glad I did.”
