As Hollywood schedules become increasingly demanding, Matt Damon says one family tradition continues to take priority over everything else: dinner together.
The Academy Award-winning actor recently shared that gathering around the table remains a non-negotiable part of family life, even as his four daughters grow older and begin carving out lives of their own. With two of his children now living away from home, Damon says those shared meals have become even more meaningful.
Like many families, the Damons occasionally find themselves distracted by phones or busy schedules. However, the actor explained that everyone makes a conscious effort to be present, adding that one of his daughters recently reminded the family to put conversation ahead of technology during dinner.
Damon acknowledged that watching his children become independent has brought a mix of pride and emotion. As his family enters a new stage, he says he is learning to appreciate every opportunity they have to spend time together.
The actor also reflected on the long production of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, noting that the demanding filming schedule required sacrifices from his family. Seeing his wife and daughters join him at the film’s premiere made the experience especially rewarding and served as another reminder of the importance of staying connected, no matter how busy life becomes.
For Damon, success in Hollywood may come with worldwide travel and blockbuster premieres, but he believes the moments that matter most still happen around the family dinner table.
