Mastodon, the renowned Atlanta-based sludge metal band, is gearing up to release not one, but two new musical projects. In a recent interview with Loudwire, drummer and vocalist Brann Dailor revealed that the band has been diligently writing since November 2023, amassing a wealth of heavy material.
Dailor, however, remains tight-lipped about the specifics of these projects. “I can’t really divulge too much. It’s a hush-hush operation, very top secret,” he said. Despite the secrecy, he ruled out the possibility of these new projects being a double album, unlike their latest 2021 release, “Hushed and Grim.”
“I don’t wanna spoil it. There’s lots of music, that’s all I can say. There’s tons of music,” Dailor added, hinting at the abundance of new material the band has created.
The band’s writing spree began after returning home from their South American tour with Gojira in November 2023. Dailor shared that since February, the band has been intensely focused on crafting these two distinct projects. “We’ve been writing pretty much this whole time that we’ve been off since we got home from South America. And after we got home from South America with Gojira, we opened Christmas presents and then, since like February or so, we’ve just been working hard making two different projects – not a double album, but two different projects.”
While the details remain under wraps, Mastodon fans can look forward to a significant influx of new music from the band in the near future. With Dailor’s assurance of “tons of music,” the anticipation for these new projects continues to build.
