Marvel’s Great Reset: MCU to Recast Iron Man, Cap, and the X-Men After ‘Secret Wars’

Marvel Studios is gearing up for a bold new era—one that bids farewell to beloved faces and welcomes a new generation of heroes. At a press event Friday, Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed that 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars will mark a turning point for the MCU, acting not as a reboot, but a “reset” of its sprawling timeline.

Following Secret Wars, iconic characters like Iron Man, Captain America, and the X-Men will be recast, effectively ushering in a fresh phase for the franchise. “Endgame was about endings. Secret Wars is about beginnings,” Feige teased, suggesting the film will lay the groundwork for a reimagined Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With Marvel scaling back its release schedule in recent years, Secret Wars is positioned as a reset button—one that transitions the MCU into a singular, streamlined timeline. Feige confirmed that the X-Men will be central to this new chapter, with longtime favorites like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit making appearances before a full-scale recast.

While Feige stopped short of calling it a reboot, he emphasized the chance to explore “sagas within sagas,” especially within the X-Men universe.

A new dawn is coming for Marvel—and it’s arriving faster than you think.
