Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Black Panther 3 is moving forward, with filmmaker Ryan Coogler returning to write and direct the next chapter of the acclaimed superhero franchise.
The announcement came during the studio’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where Marvel also revealed that David Jonsson will take on the mantle of Black Panther as Prince T’Challa II. The character, introduced as a child in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will now step into a leading role as the story continues the royal family’s legacy in Wakanda.
Rather than recasting the original T’Challa following the death of Chadwick Boseman, Marvel is expanding the storyline through his son, giving the franchise a new direction while honoring the character’s history.
Returning cast members Letitia Wright and Winston Duke are set to reprise their roles as Shuri and M’Baku, joining Jonsson in the highly anticipated sequel.
Marvel also confirmed that Black Panther 3 will arrive exclusively in theaters on December 15, 2028, making it one of the studio’s biggest upcoming releases. The Comic-Con reveal drew an enthusiastic response from fans and reinforced the importance of the Black Panther series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it enters its next era.
