If you watched Netflix’s latest documentary “Martha,” then you know that at 83 years old, the history-making businesswoman isn’t going anywhere. Case in point: her landmark 100th cookbook officially released last week, and is already a No. 1 bestseller online.
Stewart’s latest recipe opus features an intimate collection of 100 of her most treasured recipes, in addition to intimate photos from her personal archives and the stories behind them. Recipes include her mother’s humble Potato Pierogi, her decadent Gougéres, a comforting Apple Brioche Bread Pudding and her famous Paella that she famously makes for her closest friends during their summer Hamptons visits.
In a way, the retrospective cookbook serves as a scrapbook of Stewart’s life, making it the perfect purchase for anyone inspired by the inimitable entrepreneur and homemaker.
One standout recipe in the book is her “Martha-tini.” How is it different than a regular martini? “Because that vodka is so good,” she told Wall Street Journal Magazine in a recent interview. “It’s Żubrówka Vodka, a Polish vodka. The vermouth is Dolin. I like it with a very large lemon twist. I drink it with ice so one martini lasts the entire dinner.”
In addition to her cookbook and her recent documentary, which she’s publicly criticized, Stewart also has plans for an upcoming autobiography, with no set publication date as of yet. “I don’t want the book to be as long as Barbra Streisand’s, because I think hers is a little too long,” Stewart told WSJ Magazine. “There is a lot to say in the autobiography that was not in the documentary.”
