Mariah Carey Honored as 2026 Person of the Year by MusiCares

Superstar Mariah Carey has been named the 2026 Person of the Year by MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Recording Academy. The announcement, made on October 21, highlighted Carey’s impact not only as a chart-topping artist but as a committed humanitarian and advocate for underserved communities.

Carey’s achievements span more than hits — she co-founded the youth-focused Camp Mariah and provided relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Katrina and the pandemic. MusiCares praised her for “creating systems of care that lift people up and ensure music professionals and communities can thrive.”

The honor will be celebrated during MusiCares’ 35th annual gala on January 30, 2026, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, held in conjunction with Grammy week events.

For Carey, whose recent album Here for It All marked her first in seven years, this recognition underscores her dual role as both a musical force and a benevolent leader in the industry. As the annual gala raises funds to support the music-profession community, Carey’s selection reflects her ongoing legacy of influence and service.
