Lynyrd Skynyrd Eyes Release of Unheard Songs Co‑Written by Gary Rossington

Lynyrd Skynyrd may be on the verge of releasing new music written before the death of founding guitarist Gary Rossington. In recent interviews, singer Johnny Van Zant and guitarist Rickey Medlocke confirmed that the band discovered roughly thirty previously unrecorded songs that Rossington helped write. These tracks were found on a set of tapes passed on by Rossington’s wife, and band members said they could hear his voice on some of the recordings working through ideas with his bandmates.

The band has not yet announced a release schedule, but Van Zant and Medlocke expressed interest in recording the material and bringing it to fans. If they proceed, this collection could become the group’s first new studio album in more than a decade, following Last of a Dyin’ Breed in 2012.

Despite Rossington’s passing in 2023, Lynyrd Skynyrd has continued to tour and celebrate its legacy. The band recently revealed an expanded slate of shows for 2026, including headlining dates and performances alongside Foreigner.

For longtime fans of the band’s signature blend of gritty guitars and soulful southern rock, the possibility of unheard material finally seeing the light of day is exciting. Whether the songs become a full album or are released in other forms remains to be seen.
