Did you know that Gilda Radner was the very 1st cast member to be singed on the upcoming ‘SNL’ show that was to begin on October 11th, 1975, with the legendary comedian George Carlin as its 1st host? We bring up Gilda’s name today, as the film ‘Love Gilda’ opens at the week, and her life story is what dreams are made of. What makes this documentary so special, are the stars of today reading from her diary her notes, and writings – while she was a star, and while she battled for her life, fighting Ovarian cancer at the age of 42.

Gilda was a groundbreaking woman comedian who made fun of everything, including herself. Gila was meant to be a star, her father ran the legendary Seville Hotel in Detroit, a place where all the visiting stars playing nightclubs and theaters would stay. The fellow cast members so loved her, that when news of her death hit the rehearsal that Saturday night, host Steve Martin scrapped his monologue and aired a brief ‘SNL’ sketch. The entire cast was in tears as the camera went to commercial. Gilda’s marriage to comedian Gene Wilder five years before her death were the best years of her life. Please take time to see the film ‘Love Gilda’ as this documentary is special indeed.
