LL Cool J Tests Positive for COVID-19, Cancels “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” Performance

LL Cool J, one of the headliners for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, he has canceled his appearance at the ABC event.

“I know it’s disappointing to the millions of fans but my test came back positive for COVID, which means I’ll no longer be able to perform as scheduled at NYRE,” the rapper said in a statement. “We were ready and I was really looking forward to ringing in 2022 in my hometown in a special way, but for now I wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year. The best is yet to come!“

Other performers still set to perform for Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest include Pose alum Billy Porter, reggaeton act Karol G, and Rock Hall of Famer Journey. Also scheduled are Daddy Yankee in Puerto Rico and a Los Angeles bill that includes Ciara, Avril Lavigne & Travis Barker, Big Boi, OneRepublic, and French Montana.

While the Fox network recently canceled its New Year’s Eve special, ABC is decisively proceeding with Rockin’ Eve 2022 while adhering to CDC and local New York City protocols regarding audience attendees in Times Square.
