Lizzo offers words of Hope as she works through her Mental Health Issues

Lizzo has never minced words when it comes to her mental health. The 32-year-old singer recently shared scenes from a photoshoot on Instagram and used the captions to send messages of hope following a year of uncertainty. “2021 has already left me disappointed w a broken heart. I am holding onto hope but it’s slipping through my grip. Life is beautiful though, so I’ve decided to sit and feel everything. Though it hurts like hell… I am grateful for feelings,” she captioned one of the posts.

The “Truth Hurts” artist also wrote that she “will be happy” and, “Freeing myself of things I can’t control. Bullshit ain’t none of my business.” Fans took to the comments to offer up words of support. “You’re a goddess, you’ve got this!!!” one person wrote. “Keep holding on, sis!” someone else added.

This is far from the first time the Grammy-winner has opened up about her struggles with mental health. In November of last year, Lizzo posted a video to TikTok where she talked about going through “internal issues,”  and that it was OK to not be OK and that notoriety and riches don’t buy you happiness. “You can be the coolest, most richest person ever and it doesn’t buy you f***ing happiness,” she urged. “Money doesn’t buy you happinessFame only puts a magnifying glass on the s*** that you already have. And if that s*** is f***ed up, you’re just going to have even more magnified f***ed up s*** in situations where it doesn’t even seem valid or like you’re even supposed to feel that way so it f***s you up even more because you feel super f***ing ungrateful.”

And then again in December, she returned to Tik Tok to share that she was experiencing negative thoughts about her body image. “I came home and I took my clothes off to take a shower and I just started having all of these really negative thoughts about myself,” she said at the time. “Like ‘What’s wrong with me? Maybe everything. All the mean things people say about me are true.’ And, ‘Why am I so disgusting?’ And hating my body. Normally, I would have some positive thing to say to get me out of this, but I don’t, and that’s OK too. I think these are normal [thoughts]. They happen to everybody. They happen to the best of us. We are the best of us, and I just have to know that tomorrow how I feel in here,” pointing to her head, “is gonna change. And I can only hope that it changes for the better. But I know I’m beautiful, I just don’t feel it. But I know I’m gonna get through it.”

Yes, celebrities are just like us.  And it’s brave and inspiring when they use their platform to share their insecurities and help others work through their own.
