Live Nation Explains Why Dave Matthews Band Show Was Postponed

The first week of concerts at Mystic Lake Amphitheater hit an unexpected hurdle after Dave Matthews Band’s scheduled performance was postponed because of severe weather concerns.

Concert promoter Live Nation said the decision was based on forecasts calling for persistent lightning in the area, creating safety concerns and leaving too little time to present the full show before the venue’s nightly curfew. The performance has been rescheduled for Aug. 31.

The announcement came after an initial delay and sparked widespread discussion online when photos showing standing water near the front of the stage circulated across social media. The images led some fans to believe flooding had forced the cancellation. Live Nation, however, said lightning in the forecast was the deciding factor behind the postponement and did not address the photos directly.

Despite the disappointment, Dave Matthews kept the mood light after the announcement. Speaking with fans gathered outside his tour bus, he joked that he hoped the rain would continue, drawing laughs from those who had waited through the delay.

The postponement marked the first significant weather challenge for the new outdoor venue during its opening week. Organizers now look ahead to the band’s return later this summer while the amphitheater continues its inaugural concert season.
