LeBron James Extends All-Star Record to 21 Selections in Historic Achievement

LeBron James, the 40-year-old Los Angeles Lakers superstar, continues to make history, earning his 21st All-Star selection on Thursday night. James, already the record-holder after surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 19 selections last season, will once again headline the Western Conference starting lineup in this year’s NBA All-Star Game.

Joining James in the West are reigning MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry. This year’s event will be particularly special for Curry, as the game will take place at his home arena in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo led all players in fan voting for the second consecutive year and will captain the Eastern Conference starters. The East lineup also includes Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, and New York Knicks duo Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns.

LeBron’s Unprecedented Longevity
James remains a dominant force in his 21st NBA season, averaging 23.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 9 assists per game while leading the Lakers to sixth place in the Western Conference standings. His selection underscores an extraordinary level of performance at his age, setting the bar even higher for what an athlete can achieve in the twilight of their career.

Key Milestones for Fellow Starters
Kevin Durant: With his 15th All-Star selection, Durant now ties Hall of Famers Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Shaquille O’Neal, trailing only LeBron, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and the late Kobe Bryant (18).
Nikola Jokic: The Nuggets center earned his seventh selection with another MVP-caliber season, averaging 30.1 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 9.9 assists while shooting an impressive 56% from the field and 47% from three.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Fresh off a 50-point game, the Thunder guard is averaging 32 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. This marks his second straight year as an All-Star starter.
Stephen Curry: Making his 11th All-Star appearance, Curry edged out Luka Doncic in a close fan vote to reclaim his starting spot.
Eastern Conference Highlights
Giannis Antetokounmpo will make his ninth All-Star appearance and continue to anchor the East. Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell both secured their sixth selections, with Mitchell a lock for his explosive performances this season. The game will mark Karl-Anthony Towns’ first time as an All-Star starter after previously being selected as a reserve four times. Jalen Brunson rounds out the East lineup, clinching the final starting backcourt spot in a tight race over LaMelo Ball and Damian Lillard.

The Voting Process
The All-Star starters were selected using a hybrid voting system: 50% from fans, 25% from media, and 25% from current players. The seven reserves from each conference, chosen by coaches, will be announced on TNT next Thursday.

A New All-Star Format
This year’s game features a revamped format, with the 24 All-Stars divided into three teams. A fourth team will join the mix, consisting of the winners of the Rising Stars Challenge held on Friday night. Coaches Mark Daignault (Thunder) and Kenny Atkinson (Cavaliers) will lead two of the teams, with assistant coaches taking charge of the others.

As the NBA’s midseason showcase approaches, James’ latest achievement highlights his enduring greatness, while a mix of familiar faces and rising stars promises another thrilling chapter in All-Star history.
