“Lost in Yesterday” is a song by Australian psychedelic music project Tame Impala. It is the eighth track on the 2020 album The Slow Rush, and was released as its fourth single on 8 January 2020. The song was written by Kevin Parker, who performed all instruments and vocals.
The single reached number one on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart, becoming Tame Impala’s first song to top an airplay chart in the United States. It also peaked at number 78 on the Irish Singles Chart, number 2 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, becoming their highest charting song on the chart, and number 5 on the Hot Rock Songs chart.
“‘Cause it might’ve been something, who’s to say?
Does it help to get lost in yesterday?
And you might’ve missed something, don’t say
‘Cause it has to be lost in yesterday
And you’re gonna have to let it go someday
You’ve been diggin’ it up like Groundhog Day
‘Cause it might’ve been something, don’t say
‘Cause it has to be lost in yesterday”
The music video, directed by Terri Timely, depicts a wedding reception that’s initially glum but gets iteratively more lively and majestic as the participants become healthier, happier and more numerous as the scene appears to move backwards through different eras. In the end, the original bridesmaid and mother enter the wedding and attack their replacements.
