Lauryn Hill is facing a lawsuit from her fellow Fugees member, Pras Michél, who has accused her of fraud and breach of contract. According to Michél, Hill’s “arrogance” and “narcissism” played a significant role in derailing the Fugees’ 2023 reunion tour.
The lawsuit, filed in New York and obtained by Variety, claims that the tour, which had been highly anticipated and saw strong ticket sales, fell apart due to Hill’s mismanagement. Michél alleges that Hill controlled the tour budget and inflated it with “unnecessary and likely fictitious expenses” while refusing to allow an audit.
The suit also reveals that the group was offered $5 million to perform at Coachella, an offer Hill rejected because they were not given top billing over the band No Doubt. Michél claims he was not informed of this decision until it was too late, accusing Hill of undermining the opportunity.
Michél further alleges that Hill initiated the reunion because her solo tour was struggling, and she needed the other Fugees members to boost ticket sales.
In response, Hill issued a statement calling the lawsuit “baseless” and filled with “false claims.” She emphasized that she had supported Michél despite his legal troubles and expressed hope for a resolution.
The Fugees, who found major success with their 1996 album The Score, remain one of the most iconic hip-hop groups, but internal strife continues to plague their legacy.
