On Saturday, Lauren Alaina was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry with the honor presented with Trisha Yearwood–who initially surprised Alaina with an invitation to join the Opry back in December.
During Alaina’s induction, she and Yearwood were to duet the latter’s own “Walkaway Joe.” But, before they could begin, Yearwood gave the newest member of the Opry yet another surprise on stage.
“And so I thought, if it was okay with you and the band — I love you guys, and I appreciate you — I brought my guitar player with me,” Yearwood said. “Um, ladies and gentlemen, Garth Brooks.”
Alaina’s jaw dropped as Yearwood’s husband joined the two women on stage.
“So actually what happened today was, we thought we would surprise you with this,” Yearwood told Alaina. “My guitar player plays it in a different key, and so I told him this afternoon he had to learn it in a different key.”
“I’ll play it in whatever key Garth plays it in!” Alaina exclaimed. “You play it, Garth, and we’ll sing it!”
And, together, all three of them sang Alaina into her new membership into the Grand Ole Opry.
