The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly working out Meyers Leonard to see if he will join their roster. Leonard is a nine year NBA veteran who previously played for the Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat but has been out of the NBA since 2021 when he used an anti-Semitic slur during a video game live stream. He ended up suspended indefinitely after the incident in March of 2021. He then was a member of the Heat and was quickly traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder who used him simply as a salary filler in the Trevor Ariza trade and then waived him immediately. Leaving him in the dark since then.
The Lakers are in a search for big players able to create space lately. They also plan on working out former All-Star DeMarcus Cousins on Friday. Cousins originally signed with the Lakers in 2019 but never played due to injury in the off-season.
Meyers Leonard may be a risky investment if they decide on him given his off court history in the past. Also the team may face public backlash based on their decision.
