Krystal Keith Honors Late Father Toby Keith’s Strength Amid Cancer Battle

Krystal Keith is paying tribute to her father, Toby Keith, following his passing from stomach cancer. In a recent interview with AARP on August 27, she opened up about how her father faced his diagnosis with unwavering faith and resilience, which he first publicly shared in June 2022.

“He had a strong faith and a deep relationship with Jesus,” Krystal revealed. “He reached a place of peace, knowing where he was headed and feeling content with that. He fought harder and longer because he wanted to fulfill my mom’s wishes, so she could feel she did everything possible for him. He truly embodied strength and courage throughout his cancer journey, and that didn’t surprise us.”

On August 28, Toby’s life was celebrated through a star-studded tribute event, Toby Keith: American Icon, held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Krystal delivered an emotional performance of her father’s song, “Don’t Let the Old Man In,” a moment that touched many hearts.

Reflecting on her song choice, Krystal told People, “I thought I could handle performing a party song, but when they suggested ‘Don’t Let the Old Man In,’ I knew it would be tough. It’s a song that always makes me cry, but I’m glad they chose it because it turned out to be a really special moment. I believe he would have been proud.”

Toby Keith performed “Don’t Let the Old Man In” at the 2023 People’s Choice Country Awards, where he was honored with the Country Music Icon Award. During his heartfelt acceptance speech, Toby expressed gratitude to his fans and those who supported his three-decade career.

Six months later, Toby’s family announced his peaceful passing at age 62, surrounded by loved ones. In their statement, they shared, “Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5, surrounded by his family. He fought his battle with grace and courage. We kindly ask for privacy during this time.”

Toby is survived by his wife, Tricia Lucus, his children Shelley, Krystal, and Stelen, and four grandchildren. Reflecting on her father’s legacy, Krystal said, “He was a humble man who would have thought this tribute was unnecessary, but I know he would be honored by the artists who took the time to celebrate him and speak so highly of him.”
