The latest film to come from M. Night Shyamalan, Knock at the Cabin, has beaten out Avatar: The Way of Water with a $14.2 million opening from 3,643 theaters. Despite that accomplishment, it marks the lowest opening of any film directed by Shyamalan.
Knock at the Cabin’s story follows a young girl and her parents through a hostage situation at a remote cabin, where strangers demand they make an unthinkable decision in order to avoid the apocalypse. The film features Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, newcomer Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn and Rupert Grint star. The film was released by Universal, produced by a Blinding Edge Pictures, in association with FilmNation Features and Wilshmore Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Avatar: The Way of Water has fallen to number three in its eighth weekend with roughly $10.8 million from 3,310 theaters.
