Knapp’s 12-Under Mastery: A Historic 59 at PGA National

In a remarkable display of skill, Jake Knapp delivered a bogey-free 12-under 59 during the first round of the 2025 Cognizant Classic at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This achievement marks only the 15th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history.

Knapp’s round featured 12 birdies, placing him just one stroke shy of Jim Furyk’s record 58. Notably, he had an opportunity to tie the record with an eagle putt on the 18th hole, but his attempt from just inside 19 feet narrowly missed, resulting in a tap-in birdie.

Reflecting on his performance, Knapp expressed gratitude and humility, acknowledging the rarity of such an accomplishment. At 30, Knapp has been steadily ascending in the professional golf world. He secured his first PGA Tour victory at the Mexico Open in 2024 and has since demonstrated consistent form.

The conditions at PGA National were favorable, with minimal wind contributing to an average score of 68.62 for the day—a new tournament record at this venue. Other notable performances included Daniel Berger’s 63 and Rickie Fowler’s 64, but Knapp’s historic 59 undeniably stole the spotlight.

This milestone not only cements Knapp’s place in PGA Tour history but also sets a promising tone for the remainder of the tournament. Golf enthusiasts will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how he capitalizes on this momentum in the upcoming rounds.
