Kirk Hammett Embarks on Solo Album Amidst Prolific Riff Creation for Metallica

Metallica’s lead guitarist, Kirk Hammett, is channeling his creative energies into two ambitious projects: his debut solo album and an extensive collection of riffs for Metallica’s forthcoming release. Hammett has revealed that he has composed 767 new riffs intended for Metallica’s next album, a process he describes as both exhilarating and overwhelming. He remarked, “It is such a nightmare going through this stuff… I’m the one responsible for all of it, and I can’t do it.”

Concurrently, Hammett is actively developing his first full-length solo album, which promises to be a fusion of diverse musical styles. Unlike his instrumental EP “Portals,” this upcoming project will feature collaborations with guest vocalists and explore genres ranging from classical progressions to heavy rock and funk. One notable track, “The Mysterion,” draws inspiration from ancient Greek texts, reflecting Hammett’s penchant for thematic depth.

Despite these individual pursuits, Hammett remains committed to Metallica. The band plans to conclude their current tour, which includes performances in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, before taking a brief hiatus. Following this break, they intend to reconvene and delve into the wealth of material Hammett has amassed for their next album.

Hammett’s dual endeavors underscore his relentless creativity and dedication to musical evolution, both within Metallica and as a solo artist.
