The Brooklyn nets are trading away Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns in a massive move. The Suns will send Jae Crowder to the Nets, who has not played this season after asking to be traded away. Brooklyn is also getting Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, four unprotected first-round draft picks in 2023, 2025, 2027, and 2029 and a 2028 pick swap. In the deal TJ Warren will be heading to Phoenix also.
After Kyrie Irving left to the Dallas Mavericks over the course of the weekend, Durant met with Brooklyn’s front office to talk about, “the direction of the franchise and its ability to be a championship contender.” Which apparently didn’t go well, due to the resulting moves.
Durant originally requested to be traded in the offseason and when no offers came up during the summer, he took back the request before the season started. Durant is currently in his first year of a four year, $194 million extension that he signed in August of 2021, when the nets had Durant, Irving, and James harden. Currently none of the mentioned players reside on the Nets.
Meanwhile, Durant only played 39 games for the Nets this season prior to suffering an MCL sprain in his right knee. He is expected to not play through the All-Star break. NBA commissioner Adam Silver is going to name an injury replacement for Durant for the All-Star game in Salt Lake City on February 19th.
