Kenny Chesney Named Top Country Artist of the 21st Century by Billboard

Kenny Chesney has officially been crowned king of country for the 21st century. Billboard named him the No. 1 country artist of the last 25 years, based on chart performance from 2000 through 2024 on the Top Country Albums and Hot Country Songs charts.

Chesney’s reign is nothing short of remarkable. Since first appearing on Billboard’s radar in 1993, the Tennessee native has become a cornerstone of modern country music. Between 2000 and 2020 alone, he racked up a staggering 17 No. 1 albums on the Top Country Albums chart — more than any other artist. His hit-making streak includes 20 No. 1 singles on Hot Country Songs during the same period, with tracks blending heartland love ballads and breezy anthems tailor-made for beachside tailgates.

From No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems to Here and Now, Chesney has continuously reinvented the country sound while staying true to his signature vibe. His chart dominance and genre-defining catalog have solidified his place as a titan in country music history.

As Billboard’s data-driven ranking reflects, Kenny Chesney hasn’t just ridden the wave of country’s evolution — he’s helped steer the ship.
