Kenan Thompson Opens Up About GERD Diagnosis After Years of Silent Struggle

Kenan Thompson, the longest-serving cast member of Saturday Night Live, has recently disclosed his diagnosis with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). For over two years, Thompson endured persistent symptoms such as painful heartburn, hoarseness, and sleepless nights, initially attempting to manage them with dietary adjustments and over-the-counter medications. However, as his condition worsened in early 2024, affecting his professional and personal life, he sought medical advice and was promptly diagnosed with GERD.

GERD is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder impacting more than 65 million Americans, often remaining undiagnosed. Following his diagnosis, Thompson began treatment with Voquezna, an FDA-approved potassium-competitive acid blocker, and experienced immediate relief. Now, he is collaborating with Phathom Pharmaceuticals on the “GERD IS NO JOKE” campaign to raise awareness about the condition. Utilizing his comedic talents, Thompson portrays a chef in a humorous skit titled “Kick Some Acid Cooking Show,” aiming to encourage others to seek medical attention for similar health concerns.

Reflecting on his journey, Thompson emphasized the importance of not ignoring persistent health issues and the value of consulting healthcare professionals. He expressed gratitude for the relief he now feels and hopes his story will inspire others to address their health proactively.
