On Tuesday, November 3rd, Kelly Clarkson opened her episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show with a rousing cover of The Killers’ classic track “Mr. Brightside.” The American Idol champ delivered the rockers’ 2003 debut single in a high-necked, knee-length orange dress with ruffled shoulder details, backed by her socially-distanced house band.
Featured on their debut album Hot Fuss, “Mr. Brightside” served as The Killers’ breakout single, rocketing the Las Vegas-based band onto the national consciousness and peaking at No. 10 on the Hot 100 nearly nine months after its release. After all this time, the track remains The Killers’ highest-charting hit of their career.
“Jealousy, turning saints into the sea/ Swimming through sick lullabies/ Choking on your alibi/ But it’s just the price I pay/ Destiny is calling me/ Open up my eager eyes/ ‘Cause I’m Mr. Brightside,” Clarkson wailed as the virtual audience cheered.
