Keith Urban recently celebrated Loretta Lynn’s country roots at her public Nashville memorial on Sunday, October 30th. Urban performed a rendition of “You’re Looking at Country,” Lynn’s Top 10 hit from 1971, during the CMT broadcast event, titled Coal Miner’s Daughter: A Celebration of the Life & Music of Loretta Lynn. Keith Urban brought out the Banjo for a performance that underscored the song’s central message and did justice to the banjo led original version of the track. Urban asked the crowd to sing along during his performance and concluded it in saying, “God bless you, Loretta.”
Keith Urban was just one of many stars that took part in performances in Lynn’s honor during her public memorial in Nashville. Alan Jackson, George Strait and Little Big Town were only a few of the names who took the stage during the show, that aired live and commercial free on CMT.
Keith Urban and Loretta Lynn have had a special relationship. In 2019, at an all star Nashville tribute show for Lynn’s birthday, she jokingly requested that Urban jump out of her birthday cake. Joke or not, Urban fulfilled her wish and really did jump out of a gigantic purple cake at the tribute show. Loretta Lynn passed away on October fourth in her home of Hurricane Mills, Tenn., at the age of 90 years old.
